Karen Brooks – The Clam (hole 3)

Published on 22nd February 2024

The Clam – hole 3
76cm x 120cm
Acrylic on Canvas

Painted from the perspective of the elevated third tee, rather than the traditional treatment of painting towards a vanishing point, the viewer focuses on the hero of the painting, the ‘clam’ bunkers.

Complications of the parkland landscape have been broken down to focus on organic shapes and patches of luminous greens to represent hole 3.

A totally transformed and modernised hole, the subject lends itself to be painted in a semi abstract and contemporary style.

After a teaching career, Karen left to follow her passion of abstract and contemporary art. She now paints with group of Northern Beaches artists in a Cromer studio.
