# INTRODUCTION

The Club

Pymble Golf Club is a private golf club that was founded in 1928. It has a great golfing history, having won Pennants, Junior Pennants & Eric Apperly Shields. It is a Group 1 club with a top rated course, excellent facilities and a competitive golfing environment.

Board Support

The board of Pymble Golf Club fully supports this program. This is evident in a multitude of ways:

  • Subsidised fees for Juniors and Cadets

  • Reduced entry fees.

  • Support of all Junior teams

  • Allowing timesheet to be block booked for junior competitions.

  • Active participation in the Junior Development Golf Day

JNJGF

Pymble Golf Club and this program work in close association with Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation (JNJGF). Whilst Pymble can offer a first class course and a club environment, JNJGF offers a competitive age related side and social aspect with other clubs in NSW. All Cadets in this program are automatically enrolled as members of the foundation and we encourage them to participate in their events. Refer to their website for information on JNJGF events and programs.

Dress Code

As Pymble is a private club, adherence to the dress code is of utmost importance. The continuation of the program depends on maintaining the good will of the members. Main items that are not allowed are denim and cargo pants. Please closely read the handout regarding the dress code. We expect parents to also play an important role by encouraging the appropriate dress. If in any doubt, don't hesitate to ask rather than be embarrassed!

# HOW THE JAC'S PROGRAM WORKS

Operational Overview

Players are graded into four levels according to skill, rules and etiquette tests. These are represented by colours.

  • Blue
  • Green
  • Black

Once you attain a Black grading it means you can play to a handicap of 36 for a male and 45 is you are a female. The next step is to become a Junior Member of the Club and enjoy full membership rights. The cost is minimal and we've made the transition easy. Once you become a Junion Member you can participate in the separate more advanced program we have for Junior Members.

Cadets play for free outside competition times. White and Blue must be accompanied by an adult.

Every Sunday (9am- 11am) there is a clinic (sub cadet & cadets) . You can book every second week but you cannot book successive weeks. You can attend 26 clinics per year.

Grading is held during clinics up to Green level. However to reach Black you must book an individual test with the pro shop.

Progression & Playing Options

Players will progress through the following stages. At each stage they will be tested on skills, rules and etiquette. In some cases if players have previous golf experiences or are quick to pick up the skills they may skip some stages in their progression.

  • Clinics

    How Clinics are conducted

We have three objectives for our clinics. They are

    1. Teach the game of golf to our cadets
    2. Ensure they have as much fun as possible
    3. Ready them for future membership of Pymble Golf Club

    1: Teaching

We break up the game into the following components and teach all aspects

    • Chipping
    • Pitching
    • Bunker Play
    • Putting
    • Long Swing
    • Rules
    • Etiquette

Trained professionals conduct the clinics providing expert tuition to the cadets. Cadets can attend as many clinics as they want up to 26 in a year.

    2: Enjoyment

We use different venues for some variety and we also try and play on the course as much as possible. At the end of each clinic the cadets are treated to chips and drinks. This is a real highlight as they sit and chat, get to know each other and form long lasting friendships.

Throughout the year we hold a number of competitive events such as the JACS Shootout and other competitions to introduce them to the fun of competition early. Social events at the PGC are also on our agenda each year.

    3: Membership

Our main aim of the program is for as many of our cadets to join the Club as Junior members as soon as they are able. We are not looking for elite players but rather keen and enthusiastic members of the Club even though their skill levels may be average. We see the cadets as an important part of the future of the Club and this is why we are so enthusiastic and supportive of our JACs Program. We want to ensure young people are joining and that the JACs Program is a strong source of young members.

    Equipment

We appreciate the expense of purchasing equipment when children are not sure if they want to proceed. In view of this we allow them to wear trainers on the course and the Club has a few sets of children's clubs that players can use at clinics to try out before spending money on a set. It is however, recommended that golf shoes with soft spikes are used in the long term as this helps the player grip the ground and hold their stance better.

If you are unsure about type and number of clubs to purchase the pro shop will be happy to advise you.

    Proceedures

As with any program involving our junior players it is important that everyone is aware of the proceedures which must be followed as part of the program's structure.

    1: Bag Tags

On acceptance into the program all cadets are issued with yellow bag tags. These are to be affixed to their bags and displayed prominently at all times.

    2: Sign In & Out

All cadets must sign in and out in the book in the pro shop when they come to the course. Cadets that are 15 years and under must be signed in and out by an adult e.g. a parent dropping more than one player can sign for all.

    3: Bookings & Cancellations

For clinics all players must book online on the timesheets provided. Conversely, if you can not make it, then please cancel online as soon as you become aware. This helps us have appropriate levels of supervision and is good training for later as this is the correct etiquette for playing in a competition.

For competitions, players must book at least 24 hours ahead.

    4: Visitors

Cadets may not invite visitors to the Club to play (this includes parents who are non members). Parents who are non members may walk with their children (they must adhere to the dress regulations and course etiquette as well).

Junior Members (being full Club members) may invite visitors.

    5: Cards

Whenever a cadet player goes out to play we encourage them to mark a card and hand it in. These cards are then used for handicapping purposes, even if it is only 6 holes.

    6: Correct Marking Of Cards

When marking a card please ensure the following are clearly written

    • Date
    • Name of Player(s)
    • Handicap (if they have one)
    • Score for each hole played
    • Sign the card

    7: Scoring

When playing on the course, pick up after you've had 10 shots and record a 10 on the card.

    8: Handicaps

Cadets are allocated a club handicap. This handicap is only valid within Pymble Golf Club. In order to obtain an AGU/WGA handicap the player must be a full member of the Club (Junior).
